Registration is $30 for each registered participant.

Rules and Information

Students may only compete in the region associated with their district.
Students must play the same repertoire as at District.
Dually qualified keyboard students (solo, duet) may compete in the Regional competition at the location/venue of the VIE competition.
Students compete in their grade levels. 
Students play for placement, points, and comments.
In grades 4-6, when numbers are very small or very large, students may be grouped with an adjacent grade level.
Grades 7-12 will be judged in their own grade levels, no matter the numbers.
Adjudicators determine a grade-level Winner, Runner-Up (at judge’s discretion), and Honorable Mentions
There is a Winner’s Recital at the end of the day.
If the Winner is not available to play, this option goes to the Runner-Up.
All receive a Certificate, and where appropriate, a medal.
Winner earns 15 points. Runner-up earns 14 points. Honorable Mention earns 13 points. Participants earn 10 points.
Winners earn the right to compete at the State Keyboard Competition.
Parents/guardians must be present for all auditions.

If a teacher does not work or provide a sub, a $75 fine will be imposed, and their student will not be allowed to play in the following year.

ORIGINAL MUSIC
If students will be using legally downloaded music, the Copyright Representation and Indemnification Agreement form MUST be printed, signed/dated, and presented to the judge with all downloaded music at the time of the audition. Failure to have this form present with your downloaded music at the audition will result in disqualification for points. By signing this form, you agree that you are abiding by all U.S. Copyright Laws, and that your music has been downloaded.

Teachers entering eight or more students must work the full day. (This number is subject to change, dependent on registration and determined by leadership.)
Teachers entering one student may not have to work that year. (This is subject to change, dependent on registration and determined by leadership.)
If a teacher does not work or provide a sub, they will be fined $75, and their student will not be allowed to play the following year.
WMTA Keyboard Competition Rules 
TRACKRULES & ELIGIBILITY
D2Perform 2 pieces from memory. 
-Grades 1 – 6:  Pieces must be contrasting.
-Repertoire time limit = 10 minutes.
-Grades 7 – 12 & Adult:  Pieces must be contrasting.
-Repertoire time limit = 12 minutes.
-Maximum of 5 points possible for each piece.
-Guardian must be present.
-Not eligible for advancement to Regional or State Competition.
D2 – NMPerform 2 pieces (memorization not required).
-This track is available for piano & vocal students.
-Open to students in grades 1 – 12 & adults.
-Repertoire time limit: 
-Grades 1 – 6 = 10 minutes
-Grades 7 – 12 & adults = 12 minutes.
-A page-turner is allowed, but cannot be the student’s teacher.
-Must have 2 original scores for both pieces.-
-Maximum of 4 points possible for each piece.
-Pieces must be contrasting.
-Guardian must be present.
-Not eligible for advancement to Regional or State Competition.
D3Piano – Perform 3 pieces; two pieces must be memorized. 
-Grades 7 – 12 & Adult.
-Repertoire time limit = 15 minutes.
-A page-turner is allowed, but cannot be the student’s teacher. -Must have 2 original scores for the non-memorized pieces.
-Maximum of 5 points possible for each piece.
-Pieces must be contrasting.
-Guardian must be present.
-Not eligible for advancement to the Regional or State Competition.
Regional Keyboard TrackPerform 3 pieces from memory.
-Grades 1 – 12
-Repertoire time limit:
-Grades 1 – 3 = 10 minutes
-Grades 4 – 6 = 12 minutes
-Grades 7 -12 = 15 minutes
-Maximum of 5 points possible for each piece.
-Pieces must be contrasting and by different composers.
-One piece must be by a Baroque or Classical era composer.
-Original scores required for all.
-If using legally downloaded music, must complete and submit the Copyright Indemnification Form.
-Guardian must be present.

ADVANCEMENT:
-Grades 1-3: students play for comments and points; cannot advance to the Regional Competition.
-Grades 4-12: Students who earn a minimum of 14 performance points & 4 theory points advance to the Regional Keyboard Competition, playing the same pieces.
